Confidence and Character Building Through Books

Help me give my students books that will build their self confidence, teach them to be kind to everyone, and a place to sit and read instead of just the hard floor.

My Project

As you walk through the door of our classroom you will see children sitting with books on the newly purchased rug. They look so happy to sit somewhere clean and soft. They are really enjoying the books that were purchased by you. They are engaged and you can see the enjoyment in their eyes. The occasional giggle will really make you smile. In a few minutes you will see me reading one of our amazing new books.

As I read to my students their eyes light up with excitement and interest.

We have conversations about how we can all have wonderfully enjoyable lives by doing some of the same things that we see the characters in the book do. Being kind and inclusive to all others is one of the things that we talk about today. This is especially meaningful since we have a diverse class. Yesterday we read and talked about how we are learning and growing and can’t do everything yet, but if we preserve we will be able to do a lot more one day soon.

With gratitude, tomorrow we will enjoy yet another book that you bought us. Afterwards we will do a project on how our family at school compares and contrasts with our family at home. We will share our artwork with the whole school by hanging it in the hall for all to see. As the other first grade classes notice our artwork, they inquire about the books that we have been reading. We gladly share our books with them. All of us feel so blessed to have a nice new rug to sit on and enjoy our educational and growth promoting books. We can hardly wait for the next day to read and see our confidence and personal characters continue to grow.
