it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is always abuzz with activity! Students are engaged in thought provoking activities and above all, having fun while learning.
My students are from a low socioeconomic status neighborhood.
They are all non-native English speakers. They come to my class with varying educational and emotional needs. With a very large number of students in each classroom, it is vital for them to receive small group instruction to address their needs. My students face the challenge of not only learning the concepts that first grade addresses, but also learning the English language.
My Project
My students will be taught in small groups of 4-6 to address their individual needs. By conferencing with them in a small group setting, I am able to assist students in a more hands on way. Students get individualized attention based on their levels in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. I would be able to do this with more ease and efficiency by having a semi-circle table and easel. Currently, my students are squished at a round table with me. There is never enough room at the table and the students are sitting too close to each other. The semi-circle table would give each student their own workspace to be able to complete their work. The table, with me in the center, will give students the direct attention that they need, and by having an easel that is specifically for their lesson, I will be able to present all information in a visible way. My current way of presenting to my small groups is on a small dry erase board, which is not engaging enough for my learners.
This donation will help my classroom in many ways!
It will give me a more direct way to conference with my students. The dry erase board will be used to enhance their instruction by having a separate board from the rest of the class which I can write on when teaching my small groups.
