Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We place so much effort into our performance in wrestling. With the limited resources we have, we can not compete against highly ranked schools that receive the best equipment there is. Quality equipment is needed to improve our skills, but our school doesn't support our athletic department enough.
My students are highly motivated, have high respect towards others, and are disciplined well.
My students are team of thirty-five wrestlers of varying ethnic background who love coming to practice and working as a team towards a common goal. Our school does not receive enough funds to fund our extra-curricular activities therefore, having minimal funds we are able to perform the simplest of practices and drills. Due to that, we are destined to having bad winning records and we are prone to injury due to the condition of all our equipment.
Due to this obstacle we struggle with being having optimistic thoughts of our situation. Although we continue to keep our heads up and strive above many expectations. Like the saying goes, "Sometimes those who give the most, are the ones with the least to spare." In our case, it would be our heart and effort.
My Project
My wrestlers need headgear, knee pads, wrestling mat tape, and an indoor tabletop champion scoreboard. Headgear is important and will be used daily as it is vital for my wrestlers safety. The head is something we must protect at all time, as there are crucial slams in the sport. Knee pads are important to us as well since wrestling involves a lot of shots (a move where a knee is dropped to the floor in order to get low enough to go for the legs) which can hurt the knee in a long run with constant shots driven towards the mat all the time.
As for the Champion indoor tabletop scoreboard, we host the Fresh-Soph City Championships, but we have to use a beaten up, old scoreboard. We don't want to have any technical difficulties during the matches as it's a big event and don't want a bad scoreboard to affect the matches. Finally, the gorilla tape, is highly needed to hold the mats together so we don't have any of them moving while our matches come. Reducing the problems help a lot.
Any and all donations to improve the state of our equipment will be greatly beneficial to our team and the view of our school.
It will change the lives and state of being of our wrestlers by allowing them to practice and perform at maximum capability. With new sets of equipment each student athlete will be able to be ensured proper and safe equipment and allowed to practice with peace of mind.
