Condensing Resources for Optimal Space

My Students

My students are special because their families have committed them to be the next generation of indigenous Hawaiian Language speakers. Our school has many students that come from low-income households. The cost of living is high in our state and so public education is usually the route most families have to go. Our school is a school of choice so families choose to send their children to our school. Our school is also on a mission to raise the next generation of cultural practitioners that hold fast to values of conservation while still using innovation. Holding our value of cultural knowledge and protecting our resources is of high value while promoting advancement in economic growth.

One of the goals at our school is to have 80% of our students at grade level in English and in Hawaiian by the 8th grade.

The students I currently teach are 4-10th graders. We are in need of new bookshelves because some fell apart and we need to downsize book spacing due to COVID and 6ft apart regulations for students. We are committed to keeping our learning environment as student-friendly as possible while providing valuable resources for them.

My Project

These book carts will allow us to provide resources for our students in a rotational manner and in a condensed space. We have to switch books out per the learning group for sanitation purposes and make more space for 6ft distancing in between students.

These book carts will allow us to create two separate book carts for each learning group so we can sanitize on opposing days as well as provide reading and other resources to keep their learning environment as rich as possible.
