This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I, school located in an urban suburb of Atlanta, Ga. in the Clayton County School System. All of my students (100%) take part in a free and reduced lunch program. There is very little that is supplied to us, through school system support, therefore almost everything we have acquired as a program has been done so through creative/innovative fundraising, grant writing and donations. Do to the few opportunities that are given to us, we take advantage of any opportunity that comes our way to give our students a greater high school band experience.
My Project
We have a specific need for mallets for our concert band ensemble. As our band grows, so does our need for percussion accessories so that all of our percussion musicians can have the tools and opportunities to participate and further their musical experience.
Percussion students often gets looked over when it comes to concert band.
By getting these much needed supplies the students will be able to contribute to the musical experience of the whole band, as well as grow as individual musicians. There is no way to play marimbas and drums without the proper sticks. This project will solve that issue director.
