Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goal is to prepare students for the real world. My students are preparing to graduate, with a mix of ambitions for the future. However, many students use apps exclusively and do not know how to save a file and are unfamiliar with the Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel. I can see some gaps in my students' knowledge in areas of technology and understanding different concepts in math which could be a detriment in the workplace. I want to give them the most access to the curriculum and real-world skills so they can succeed after graduation.

Thumb drives will familiarize them with more technology and software platforms they may use in college and future careers.

I use various software in the classroom (Excel/Word/etc) and will have them use it as well and save their work and create their own projects and portfolio on thumb drives, which they could bring with them to other classes or share with other students/co-workers.

Headphones will help our classroom will move towards a Modern Classroom model, which allows students to take control of their own learning, and to learn independently at their own pace, so students in the classroom may be learning different lessons at the same time, watching videos, which requires headphones so students can watch videos and not become distracted by their surroundings. Beyond the Modern Classroom model, I include videos in my lessons which students may want to refer back to, or use the headphones to block out surrounding noise, and it would benefit students to have their own set of headphones in the classroom.

Math manipulatives will help my students catch up closer to grade-level in their understanding of fractions and other concepts, which diagnostic tests have shown their general skills are weak by providing physical/hands-on modeling.
