This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Wharton Junior High students are a great group of 7th and 8th-grade teenagers.
Our district population is approximately eighty percent (80%) low socio-economic and the destruction brought by Hurricane Harvey has only amplified the struggle of this community.
Our academic achievements at the campus have improved greatly despite challenges faced last school year. Our students have shown great perseverance in light of adversity and we as a district want to continue to provide a stable and challenging academic experience for all students.
My Project
Students will use graphing calculators to compute upper-level math. A graphing calculator is a learning tool designed to help students visualize and better understand concepts in math and science. Students will engage in collaborative projects to learn about the future of math application.
Graphing calculators allow students to type in a function, and will then show a graph of it.
Students solve problems by plotting graphs, solving simultaneous equations, and performing other tasks with variables. Graphing calculators are also programmable and therefore considered to be programmable calculators, allowing the user to create customized programs, typically for scientific, engineering and education applications.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
