Chromebooks are the perfect additions to all classrooms. With the addition of free apps and extensions, students can expand their learning by utilizing "real world" experiences and on-line simulations. With Wharton ISD being a Google district, concept specific apps and district on-line curriculum and textbooks can be easily pushed out to students. These Chromebooks will allow our students to take virtual field trips, exploring concepts in a new way, and to see places otherwise deemed impossible for them to visit. This is critical for our students who suffered wide-spread devastation not only within the school system; but within the community, due to the extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey and the flooding of the Colorado River, which runs directly through Wharton. Educational time is so precious, it is advantageous for a student to have a Chromebook instead of using valuable time checking out a device from a librarian. All colleges use some form of cloud based storage and online classes. By exposing our students to Google Apps and the online environment, we are providing tools for our students to prepare them for the technology that students face in higher education. By giving students Chromebooks, it is an amazing way to get students actively engaged while allowing students to take ownership in their own education, which will open new horizons for their future.
