Computers + STEM = Life and Career Potential!

My students need 4 student Chromebook computers to be efficient and effective in typing, writing, and researching online as they head skillfully towards their career choices.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Kinion's classroom raised $1,073

This project is fully funded

My Students

My high need multiethnic, multilingual fifth graders in a large urban school district need computers to do research online, learn to type, design projects, and evidence their learning. Having computers would advance their potential, widen their career choice plus further their current academics.

My fifth graders are eager learners with multilingual backgrounds but have limited to none consistent, ongoing use of computers.

Our computer lab in our large K-8 urban school with 66% free and reduced price lunch population serves 26 classrooms. This means a mere once a week viable use! Online research is a minor occurrence let alone the time and rehearsal of typing skills. Both skills are needed to further their academic potential and career choice. I know that adding computers to my classroom would open up possibilities! I recently took my students to the computer lab for 35 minutes which meant they barely discovered how to do research online! Waiting a whole week to continue the process is almost defeating! They are eager to learn and master skills so providing computers directly in our classroom would spur them on! Computers would link them to the world beyond! Having time to rehearse typing skills would increase their potential on the statewide online assessment! Career choices open!

My Project

I can envision the classroom buzzing with computer use throughout the day with opportunities to do research, add richly to conversations with newly acquired vocabulary and information, increase confidence in sharing knowledge and lengthen both verbal and written reports! My multilingual population would be able increase both skills and potential with this access to computer use throughout the day! There is no limit to possibilities in adding to content knowledge through researching online plus constant use would increase both confidence and abilities! That access means speaking, listening, and written skills would all be enriched with vocabulary discussions, informational perspectives and deepened understandings. Right now I am stymied as I see their learning stalemate with limited access to once a week usage and little connection to learning itself. Consistent use, constant availability for every student, means I could put them in viable teams, engage them in deeper discussions.

Increasing the numbers of computers means my students will have consistent access for research online, increase their typing skills, and be ready to share in speaking, listening and written reports with richer vocabulary and information.

Content areas will be enriched through reports and discussions with information found online! Meanwhile skill areas will be enhanced by gaining confidence in written expression and typing practice. Imagine knowing that you could contribute so much!
