Help me give my students access to computers and the opportunity to develop technology skills. More than half of my students do not have computers at home to complete school assignments.
Most of my students have difficulty believing they are capable and able to learn what everyone else is learning. Through various teaching strategies, many of my students are beginning to believe me when I tell them they are smart and can learn the skills needed to learn the material being taught.
It is an amazing feeling watching the "a-ha" moment cross over their faces and then seeing the disbelief and then the sudden realization that they can do something.
From that point forward, their desire to learn and belief that they can is reflected in how they are engaged in class.
All my students receive special education services for various exceptionalities. They access information in many different ways, and through differentiation of lessons, they are able to learn what is required to obtain a high school diploma.
My students are individuals who are beginning to believe in themselves and are opening their minds to the process of learning.
My Project
These two computers will be utilized daily for Reading Plus. This program, if used regularly throughout the school year, will increase reading comprehension by 1 to 2 grade levels. My students' reading comprehension is well below grade level. By having these computers available during recess, lunch, and after school, students without computers at home will be able to access the program for the needed 20 to 30 minutes.
During class time, I will also be able to use these computers when station teaching.
Station teaching is where you have multiple stations for students to rotate through during class time. This gives multiple students the opportunity to utilize the computer for research, checking on their grades, and working on projects/papers.
The world today is technology-driven, and, in order to prepare my students for their futures, we need to ensure they can read and know how to utilize a computer.
