Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

In ELA class there is a lot of reading and writing. All of the units require multiple opportunities for writing, but what makes it exciting for my students is when they get the opportunity to type their essays and Culminating Writing Tasks. My 6th graders do not like to write; however when I tell them that they will be able to type and present their writing after they complete the steps in the writing process, they get excited about it. As an educator, I am trying to prepare my 6th graders for college, careers, and beyond.

I believe that it is important for students to develop crucial skills that are needed for their future success.

Students need to be given opportunities for success instead of setting them up for failure. My students already have enough negativity and failure to deal with in their daily lives without school being boring or having a lack of necessary skills or materials needed to become successful.

My Project

Having these 5 computer/tablets will allow more students to have access to complete writing assignments in a timely manner. By adding these computers to our classroom, students will have opportunities to use the computer for their writing at a minimum of two to three times each week.

We usually have to rotate to the desktop classroom computers and students may only have one opportunity each week to type their writing.

These 5 computers will give us the opportunity for 11 students to type at a time. This will help us to become better writers, because students will have more opportunities to publish their writing.
