Computers for Kids

My students need a new computer. Our new language arts program requires quite a bit of research, and a new computer would be invaluable.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine being a 21st century kid in a 1980's classroom! I currently only have one computer for thirty students. Your support will help bring my student to computer ratio down to 15:1. This is still an unacceptable number, but it will move the students in the right direction.

I have a truly wonderful class of 30 identified gifted and high achieving students.

My class is a 4/5 split. I have 14 fourth graders and 16 fifth graders. Most of the students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged households. Despite their disadvantages they are among the kindest, most caring, hardest working, and self-motivated kids I have ever had the pleasure to call my students.

My Project

I am asking for a new desktop computer so I can establish a mini computer center in my classroom. Today's world moves so fast, and the need to have global access to information grows exponentially year after year. I hate to put my students at a disadvantage. It is hard to be a digital native when you are hardly conversant in how to use technology. Many of my students have no computers, some have a computer but no Internet access, and a few do have access. The ability to access information use their E-texts and communicate with like minded students across the nation and world is severely limited by a lack of technology. I hope to solve this problem step by step with the help of people like YOU.

Having a student to computer ratio of 30:1 in a 21st century classroom is a major disservice to my students.

Decreasing that ratio to 15:1 is a step in the right direction. I will continue to post projects until I get down to my goal of 4:1. Please make a difference in the lives of my students.
