I am biased, but I teach the best students at the best school in the world. Our students face numerous challenges, but they still work their hardest to achieve their goals daily.
Our school is a K-8 school, considered high poverty by the state, with roughly 700 students, who are largely special needs or have a parent serving in the military.
We have the second highest population of special needs children, ESE children, and children who have a one or both parents in the military in our district.
We are a Title I school with minimal resources. Every teacher at our school works to provide our students with a first-class education, while helping them to overcome the many obstacles in their lives.
Our students are in before and after school care, due to one or both parents serving in the military and often deploying. Our students experience a transient life of homelessness, displacement and adjusting to new environments, expectations, and education standards due to life in the military or poverty. I strive to help my students transition fluidly through these challenges and work hard to catch them up on the curriculum they've missed.
My Project
My request is for a Silhouette Cameo machine bundle kit to use in my classroom for several purposes. My students will use the Cameo to create items to sell in our school store to support our classroom business. I want to teach my students financial literacy in a real-world situation, so we will brainstorm items to create, research market value to determine sale price, analyze market trends and use our profits and expenses to plan for better business transactions in the future. My students will brainstorm ideas for the use of our profits from the classroom business, pitch them to the class and then vote. Our profits will be used to better our classroom in the future or to benefit a local charity. This classroom business will teach my students about finances, banking and the importance of hard work.
By funding this project you are allowing me to put more time into teaching and less time into prepping while also helping my students learn financial literacy through a classroom business.
The Cameo will also be used to create math station materials, remediation flashcards, bulletin board materials and labels for classroom supplies. This will save precious time in creating educational materials for this very busy teacher. The use of a Cameo machine will greatly decrease the amount of time I spend prepping materials and allow me to focus more energy on teaching. Thank you for considering my project.
