This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When it comes to independent work time, my students prefer to work in the computer center. My students love using technology to learn and "play". They are more motivated to complete the task on hand if it involves technology. A MacBook Pro would make a nice addition to our computer center.
My Kindergarten students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all young children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. Their parents want the best education possible for them but, due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have many books, puzzles, or other educational toys and technology at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager, and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantaged, but not enough to provide every classroom with a well stocked classroom library and much less with a MacBook Pro. These kids will be our future leaders. They deserve to have the appropriate learning tools to be successful.
My Project
Having a MacBook Pro will help my students in all academic areas. They will be able to use programs and applications to reinforce language arts and math concepts. They will be able to use the internet to research and view educational videos. Last year for example, we used the computer to view videos of tornadoes and pictures of different spiders during science class. We can also use the the MacBook Pro for illustrating and writing stories. We can also use interactive computer games on the MacBook. My kindergarten students can also use the MacBook Pro for taking district mandated online assessments. In addition, we can use the MacBook Pro alongside our new 3D printer to design pieces of art.
The MacBook Pro will enable my students to experience the latest technology within our classroom.
They will be able to use the computer independently or with a partner to review or learn new concepts. As a class, will be able to research and find images needed with a touch of a button when discussing stories, social studies and science concepts. This MacBook Pro will make a difference in my current and future student's lives.
