My Students
My students come from low-income backgrounds. They do not have the opportunity to experience very much technology outside of the classroom. I have made it a goal of mine to introduce as much technology as possible to them so they may have a well-rounded education prior to entering the real world as young adults.
Our school is a community that serves many military families from the Little Rock Air Force Base.
We try to tie in how engineers have a role to play in the military as well as civilian life. This gives my students the ability to see how engineering could help them later in life even if they choose to follow in their parents' footsteps.
My students love hands-on activities and projects. About 90% of my class is project-based learning. This creates enthusiasm in the classroom and allows students to learn through experiences and not just direct instruction.
My Project
My students are needing updated supplies for our computer science and engineering lab. The dial calipers that we are currently using break and wear out so we are in need of a couple of new dial calipers. We are also in need of AA batteries to power the robots we build. The EZ BioResearch Agar dishes are going to be used to test the disinfection of our keyboards and door handles for an engineering project.
We are also needing more servos for our computer science lab.
