This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is made up of diligent, inspiring, and creative fourth graders with big hearts and analytical minds. They attend school every day with purpose and a desire to learn something new, to discuss what they think, and take pride in their efforts. My students learn in a bilingual community with a high level of family support. They attend our school with growing technology opportunities that enhance their approach, application, and articulation of their knowledge and their new learning. We balance this with many opportunities to develop creativity and physical fitness through sports. We support the development of persistence, teamwork, and determination.

My Project

Our students have experienced various apps and online tools to explore computer science. They have learned to use Scratch while animating characters and manipulating movement. They have also learned to use digital brick language to command characters to complete tasks on Code.org. Our student interest in coding has grown tremendously.

Providing this opportunity to take coding beyond the digital screen will be exciting for our students.

They will be able to see firsthand how their clear commands can direct a 3D object in front of them to work. The Lego Mindstorms Core package will engage students to continue exploring computer science while sparking interest in robotics.
