I love watching my students connect the dots; when they see the "why we are doing this" or "how they can use this in their future." That look in their eyes is what makes me excited to be a teacher.
Today's students thrive when they can learn in ways that best fit their learning style.
The traditional classroom doesn't work anymore. I am always looking for ways to personalize my classroom to fit the needs of every one of my students.
My Project
Computer science, coding, programming, and STEM classes are going to play a huge role in education for nearly every student.
The possibilities are endless for students who can pursue their passions in these areas.
These computer science resources will allow for some variety in learning the basics of computer science and critical thinking. They will allow for students to take a break from staring at a screen while still reinforcing the ideas and concepts of computer science. They will also allow for different learning stations to be set up around my classroom, as I do not have enough other resources (Arduinos, Edisons, etc...) for each student to work individually. Providing my students with these supplemental resources will give my students the opportunity to expand on the concepts we have learned in a different way.
The Thames & Kosmos Electronics: Learning Circuits and ThinkFun Circuit Maze Electric Current Logic Game will provide students with an "unplugged" opportunity to learn about circuits, electricity, and reading schematics. This will directly tie-in to our Arduino unit when we wire and program the Arduino Uno microcontrollers.
The Think Fun Code Master Programming Logic Game and Thames & Kosmos Code Gamer Coding Workshop and Game will then be used to reinforce the concepts learned about the different programming languages we will cover using Scratch, Edisons, and Arduinos.
All of the resources will provide students with an opportunity to reinforce the skills and concepts we are learning to enhance their overall computer science knowledge.
