This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an urban community in California, and 100% receive free lunch. We lack materials and supplies because of major budget cuts in the elementary public schools, which has made it a bit difficult and has forced us to use our creativity to teach.

I have a diverse group of energetic first graders this year.

They range from a few high performing to the majority of low performing students. Yet, I am determined to provide students with meaningful learning experiences where they can acquire life-long skills to be successful individuals.

My Project

I am currently teaching 1st grade. Many of my students will be using Chromebooks this year. However, the touch pad is not user friendly to my 6-7 year old students. They have a difficult and frustrating time controlling the cursor. Having a mouse of their own will allow my students to take tests efficiently, lower their frustration level, and help them focus more on the content rather than the technical aspect of the program or work.

In addition, our class will also benefit from having a printer.

Because we will be utilizing technology throughout the year, students will be producing work on the computer. To display this work, it is important we have a reliable printer. It will also motivate students to complete their work and become more proficient in using the computer once they see their work on display in the classroom.
