My Project
The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE) Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Course is a virtual course of 30 hours of a hands-on, interactive, and personalized class that provides a complete understanding of IMSE’s enhanced Orton-Gillingham method, the essential five components to literacy, and the tools necessary to apply it in the classroom. As a special education teacher, this training would greatly benefit the ways in which I teach my students. They will be able to participate in learning that is research-based and proven to be an effective multi-sensory way to teach students with reading disabilities.
The Comprehensive Orton Gillingham professional development course addresses the concepts of the Science of Reading, dyslexia, structured literacy, and reading instruction for English Language Learners.
The course provides hands-on opportunities to learn how to identify and administer various types of literacy assessments. It also provides the opportunity to implement and create structured literacy lessons to be used right away with my students. As a special education teacher, knowledge of the Orton Gillingham approach is a crucial component of my daily teaching. It would enhance how effectively I implement reading strategies to best help my students.
Additionally, by attending the training I would be provided with the materials necessary for the implementation of instruction. The materials included with this professional development are the Comprehensive OG Plus Teacher’s Guide, IMSE’s Comprehensive OG Plus Spelling Teachers Guide, Interventions for All: Phonological Awareness by Yvette Zgonc, Syllable Division Word Book by IMSE, Phoneme/Grapheme Card Pack by IMSE, Syllable Division Posters by the IMSE, Comprehensive OG Plus Practice Packet, Decodable Readers Sets 1-3 (PDF), Asynchronous Fluency, Vocabulary, Blending Board, Procedural Routine Flip Chart and access to IMSE’s Interactive OG 2.0 digital resource library to create lessons. My students will greatly benefit from these visual and hands-on materials in their learning.
