We need more reading comprehension practice materials! These books have been written in! This book is too hard to understand! This is what my students say when we start our reading comprehension lesson.
My students are a wonderful group of children that have learning disabilities.
I like to think that they just learn differently. They need small group and individualized instruction. They are also on many different reading levels. It is an elementary school in which most of my students are bused in from surrounding areas. They all come from different ethnic backgrounds. Many do not have the support that they need at home.
My Project
The comprehension books, cards and materials will enable my students to have the necessary supplies to help them succeed in reading comprehension. They will learn reading strategies such as identifying the main idea and finding supporting details, fact and opinion, and how to make inferences about what they have read. These books will give my students an opportunity to have various reading materials such as fiction and nonfiction stories on different grade levels. The more they read and practice the skills needed to answer questions, the better they will become at it. They will learn how to go back to a particular reading passage to find an answer and be able to underline it. My students will be eager to share their answers and ideas easily when they use the answer paddles. They will learn how to correctly answer and write short answer responses to questions by using the writing process folders.
These comprehension books and materials will make a significant difference in the lives of my students.
They will learn how to be better readers as well as writers with your help. By supporting this project you are increasing my students chances of success! When students learn differently we need to have the supplies to differentiate their learning experiences.
