My Students

My fourth grade students are turning into motivated citizens. They have a developing sense of agency stemming from the fact that they have spent part of this school year brainstorming ways to help Union Street Charter, our school, reduce the flow of waste coming from this site.

The 2021 USC fourth grade wants to help our school community and our planet!

My Project

My class developed projects to help our school reduce its waste stream. Projects range from making moving machines using recycled materials to a pencil challenge to see who can have their pencil last the longest.

One of the projects that needs funding is the composting of our classroom's paper towels.

Paper towels that we use to dry our hands after hand washing can not be recycled. Due to COVID, my students have been washing their hands a lot! My class found a business that will pick up our paper towels (by bike) and compost them at a local community garden!
