Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade students are very special because they are curious and excited about the world. They attend a high academic school and are especially curious about the world and the people who live there. They come from different backgrounds and that's part of what makes them very special and interesting. I enjoy our students individual personalities and I want to help them learn more about the world and its natural resources and how we can help to preserve it for the future inhabitants.

My students first language is Spanish and their parents are excited for them to learn English and to help them maintain their native language as well by immersing them in literature and hands on experiences about the world that surrounds them.

My students have empathy for their fellow citizens and love to learn how to preserve and appreciate the natural resources of Planet Earth.

They love to participate in activities that connect them to their community. They love to work hard at play as well as work hard at learning about the world and trying to make a difference. They love to learn about math and science and they love recess and lunch too!

My Project

The materials that I selected will help my students learn about ways that they can protect the natural resources on Planet Earth. They will learn the importance of protecting our natural resources by being responsible for a recycling project at their school.

My students will also learn about how they can help Planet Earth by composting their food scraps in a Worm Farm Composter.

They will also learn about the life cycle of a plant by being able to plant herbs, flower and vegetable seeds. They will learn about how plants are natural resources that need protecting as well.

My students will read about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling through literature that I selected for them. I will also read these books aloud to my students to help them understand the concepts and develop their language abilities. All these materials will provide hands-on experiences which will help my students learn about the world around them in a fun and interactive way,
