Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This class is meant to help students learn and engage in Agricultural and Industrial Arts. My students enjoy working with their hands and learning new skills!
We learn best when we are active!
We spend much of our time either working in our garden or learning new industrial skills. These are skills that many of these students have not even attempted before, and it is a great way for them to 'try out' different skills that they might be interested in growing in later in life.
Currently our school bags and dumps loads of leaves every week. Our goal is to take those leaves and put them to good use right here in our campus garden.
My Project
Compost in the city is about making a change in our impact on the environment. Not only lessening a negative, but increasing our positive impact too!
My students need the opportunity to put their learning to action.
Each fall all of the school trees on our campus begin to lose their leaves. Our wonderful cleaning crew bags these leaves up, and throws them in the trash. What a waste! My class manages our schools garden, a place for kids to study and enjoy nature.
Our goal is to take all of those leaves and keep them from going to the landfill, by instead putting them to good use here on campus. We reduce our footprint by limiting the trash that goes to the dump, and we improve the soil right here where we live and work in an effort to make our school more beautiful.
