Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in central Connecticut. There are over 1600 students at our school and 100% receive free and reduced-price lunch. This year, I am teaching (and learning from) 125 of these students in my 10th grade biology class. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom because of their lack of experience.
My 10th-grade Biology classroom is a place of challenge and discovery.
My students will use the knowledge they gain from their science classes to help them to become good citizens of science, work with others, and solve problems in their future classes and beyond.
My students are hardworking, dedicated, loving youth, who are trying to make the best of every situation. I love my job, and my students, are my everything!
My Project
We have been working to get enough laptops to share with 5 biology teachers (reaching over 600 students) for the last two years. Students use these computers to write lab reports, review for tests, research questions they have in class, use Google Classroom, and do computer simulations for biology lessons.
We currently have 20 computers, and these will complete our cart so that all students have 1-to-1 access when in Biology class!
We do not have textbooks in the class, so this will help students access resources to be able to understand more complex scientific concepts. We also lack reliable internet access, so the extra computers will give us some backups in case a computer is not connecting to WiFi. Please help us to reach our goal of 23 computers.
