This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day my students walk into my room with smiles on their faces and the most interesting slightly invented stories to tell. We are a family in many ways and each day brings neoteny challenges to go through together and successes to celebrate together. It's my job to lead this family.

My students are amazing.

They are sweet thoughtful but very shy. They are have had some educational challenges that effected their self esteem. These students need all support possible to navigate through the new common core standards. The best way to assist the students in these new and extremely difficult standards is to use hands on/ student based centers with small group instruction. I want these students to feel success and to feel empowered, with the help of these center supplies, the students will be able to practice their skills and feel a sense of accomplishment. They don't have the materials at home so if they don't get supplies through the schools they wont have the opportunity to practice the skills they are taught. The saying " it takes a village to raise a child" can never be more true then with these students.

My Project

I have a proactive hands on approach to teaching, where the students can complete hands in independent activities. This occurs best with well crafted centers. These materials will be used during centers to reinforce skills I taught during the day. I feel that children learn best by doing not just hearing. I will use the Follow-The-Dots Number Stamps, counters, shapes, question cards and other materials in the center kits to prepare the students for higher level thinking.

Right now I don't have the materials needed to have the students work in small groups which hinders their mental and social progress.

These materials will allow the student take the information I have given them and actually apply it. This project will allow students to explore the math skills in a real world setting use money, blocks, counters and word problems. It will bridge the gap between what's taught in school and what's used in the real world.
