I teach an elementary 5th grade class. We call our classroom "Sterzerville" and treat our classroom as a city. Students have jobs in the classroom and get paid. They also have to pay rent and utilities every month. Our goal as a class is to create a community and be able to be successful in our future. They come from all different backgrounds. Some love reading. I am constantly telling students to put their books away while I am teaching. Some love math and help teach their peers what we are learning. Some love science and love to play with our Snap Circuits.
In my class, we practice having a Growth Mindset daily.
They practice what they learn in "Growth Mindset" Challenges and are constantly working on improving. They are hard workers and want to become the best they can be. They put forth effort so they can have successful results.
My Project
Currently in our classroom, we have flexible seating which means the students' books need to be flexible. Students rotate throughout the classroom and bring their book boxes with them. Currently, I am using cardboard magazine holders that I bought from IKEA. We are 7 weeks into the school year, and they are completely worn out.
I am looking to purchase "Book Boxes" that are more durable and a little bit wider to allow students to fit more books and supplies in them.
This will allow them to last the whole year and for years to come.
I also received a large donations of books which has left my bookcase overflowing with books. I would love to purchase some containers that will allow for more room on my bookshelf and allow me to organize them into different genres. This would also assist in the students having an easier time picking out a good book.
