My Students
I teach an extremely talented and unique group of fifth graders in Kentucky. They are both advanced program students and regular program students. Several of my students are from different countries. We are considered a school with moderate poverty, but we do not qualify for additional state and government funds. Yet, each of our at-risk students need the opportunity to have the same resources as students at other schools. My students are eager and excited. They are creative and want to learn more. They are eager and seek knowledge on a daily basis.
My Project
"Movement anchors thought...", neurologist Carla Hannaford. My students are always asking to get up and move and stretch. Spending 7 hours in a hard blue plastic chair is hard on them. When they heard about the Hokki chair phenomenon, they asked how they could get some to try. We borrowed a few from another class, and ... WOW ... the kids loved them! We talked about how expensive they were and they asked how they could get some for our classroom. They believe that these 'special chairs' will help them with their need to wiggle and move during the day. After they did the research and found the benefits for their use, I told them I would most definitely help them in their quest to get some for our classroom. We almost have a class set. This last one will complete it!
I am excited that this is their request and their idea!
I want to give them the best possible environment for their learning. These Hokki stools will offer them the alternative seating options to help them move while staying focused on their work. The benefits of Hokki stools are immeasurable; from calming the wiggles, practicing self-control, and even improving their posture. The stools can even be easily moved around the room for collaboration and small group instruction, too.
