My school district is the largest district in our city, however not one school has a marching band! My students want to be the first marching band in our district, but....we do not have enough drums to make a drum line. And you cannot have a marching band without a drum line!
My school is a high poverty, Expeditionary Learning school.
Expeditionary Learning is a method of instruction that emphasizes high achievement through active learning, character growth and teamwork. Music is a big part of our school! We have weekly whole school gatherings where each week a class presents their work. Music plays a big role in introducing activities, advertisements, etc. The whole meeting is student run! Many students share their talents through music!
My Project
As I said before, there are no marching bands in our district! There is no funding for me to purchase any instruments as I have absolutely no budget at all. We do not have enough marching drums to complete a drum line and we do not have a drum for each of my drummers. We are in great need of a Quad Set to complete our line, without them we cannot start a marching band! My 7th graders are practicing marching band music and are very eager to get outside and learn to march. Marching band is an excellent way to add exercise into the students daily routine. Marching requires coordination of feet, hands, lips, muscles, brain, etc. The students will be gaining skills they can use in many other areas.
This Quad Set and Carrier will be used with many years of marching band to come! My school is expanding to a K-12 school over the next few years. Eventually the drums will be able to be used for the High School Marching Band as well.
Help us start the very first marching band in our district by helping us purchase marching drums!
My students are so excited to get outside and learn to march and play at the same time! Who knows, maybe someday you will see us march by you in a parade! We will have you to thank for many years to come!
