My students are sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in a small, rural middle school.
Our three hundred and twenty-five students range from the mentally impaired and learning disabled to gifted, with every ability level in between.
They all are excited about learning; however, and want to be able to do everything larger schools do.
We get no money for supplies, consumables, or new equipment. Everything we get has to come from grants or fundraisers. With every department, music group, and athletic team raising funds, it becomes very difficult for the community to support all of our needs.
My students are interested in starting a Vex Robotics competition team after school. We have several students interested in staying to learn to build and program robots to compete in an arena with specific criteria. We need the kit so that they can practice before the competitions. This year, they will be collecting small blocks and putting them in baskets with their robots. We have a grant for the robotics equipment, so students can get started building right away, but they need these supplies to build the field where they can make sure their robots work correctly to fulfill the criteria of the competition!
