Competitive Dance Team Members Need Help Getting to Camp!

My students need financial assistance to attend summer training at Dance Team Camp. It costs each of our student athletes $165 to attend this amazing opportunity to learn and grow with their teammates.

My Students

I teach dance full time in a performing arts charter school near Tampa, FL. My dance team students are extremely committed to our program and they enjoy the positive outlet the team provides them. Our team competes at the National level and consistently is ranked in the top 10 for over 5 years now. Our team is comprised of males and females who are dedicated and talented.

This year my students have really been affected by Hurricane Irma.

Specifically, some students and their parents had to replace the contents of their refrigerators/freezers, this is especially hard for kids of large families who typically buy in bulk. Families were affected by the high cost of evacuation, boarding up of their homes and the impact is still lingering for them. This leads me to why I am asking for help, our team is struggling.

My Project

Competitive Dance Team is essentially a year round sport, typically not covered by school budgets, but fund raised by the dance team members themselves. Our Varsity Dance Team is quite creative in our fundraising endeavors, but despite the spirited efforts of our student athletes, sometimes a dancer falls short of their financial goals. In some cases, this causes our team members to miss out on certain opportunities. Often, camp is one of these events the students forego, in order to raise other funds for things like costumes and competition costs.

The life lessons learned, dance skills gained and team bonds formed during camp truly impact our entire season, we would love to be able to have all team members at camp by eliminating the financial burden for 5 of our dancers.

During the 3 days of camp our student athletes not only learn choreography to perform at community events, but they come to realize what hard work looks and feels like. Through various evaluations at camp, we also have the opportunity as a team to qualify for the National Dance Team Competition.

There is no replacing the camp experience for dancers who are unable to attend camp with the team, it is our hope that each and every dancer on the 2018-2019 Varsity Team will be present at camp. The experience is a special time for veteran teammates to take on leadership responsibilities and for rookie members to build their confidences on the dance floor. With your help, we hope to arrive to camp with our full roster of dance team students.
