My Project
When the world shut down in 2020, my current students should have been learning kindergarten lessons of kindness, compassion,& friendship. Through the novel, Wonder, students will see the world through Auggie's eyes and truly learn compassion for everyone.
Students will create compassion projects where they work together to alleviate others' suffering by developing school or community projects that inspire kindness and compassion.
The book teaches that accepting people for who they are, not how they look, can make life better for everyone. One lesson is to put yourself in someone else's shoes and imagine how it would feel to be them. We will use Thrively.com to measure students' understanding of compassion and empathy before and after the projects.
It is my hope that this project will inspire my students to act with empathy and tolerance while also inspiring others in our school and community to do the same. Our world is filled with too much negativity, and these students can remind us how everyone can make a difference in the world with simple acts of compassion, kindness, and empathy.
