My Project

I am so excited about this project. Teaching my kindergarteners about kindness and compassion is so important. These books will be used during our social-emotional learning time to teach them how to be kind to others and what kindness and compassion actually mean. The couch is also going to be a super comfy addition to our classroom where students can discuss the books we are reading.

Through our social and emotional learning time my students will practice being compassionate towards their peers and how we can help each other when someone is going through something difficult.

Incorporating the compassion-focused books such as "Kindness is My Superpower", "Jo-Jo the Kind Sloth: A children's book about developing self-compassion", "I Am Love: A Book of Compassion", "I Choose Empathy", and "Kindness is My Jam" in the classroom will provide rich opportunities for students to explore empathy and kindness. Our class will initiate discussions around the themes presented in the books, encouraging students to reflect on the characters' actions and emotions. To deepen understanding, activities such as role-playing scenarios, writing reflections on personal experiences related to compassion, and creating artwork inspired by the stories will also be implemented.

My goals for this project are to use these books to teach students how to be more kind and compassionate towards each other. With these amazing read alouds I will have students draw pictures of ways they can be more compassionate to others.

As my students practice being compassionate, I will be able to see how they interact with one another on a daily basis and use their communication skills to measure their success of understanding compassion.
