This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project will help students to cultivate empathy and a spirit of giving among students by providing them with the materials they need to support their peers. Our goal is to help students see the world through the eyes of another person and foster a community grounded in compassion, understanding and kindness. The requested snacks will not only nourish students' bodies but also nourish their understanding of empathy and compassion. Many students come to school hungry or without adequate nutrition affecting their ability to concentrate and learn effectively.
By providing snacks, we can alleviate this barrier to learning and show students the importance of caring for others.
Students will take an active role in this project by participating in snack drives and distribution the requested snack will be complemented with cafeteria breakfast and lunch and the plates will be used to serve these items. Throughout the year the students will learn about the impact of food insecurity and work collaboratively to address this issue. Through discussions, activities centered around compassion and engaging in writing activities using the composition books, the students will explore different perspectives and the importance of supporting one another. Every week the students will choose a student to highlight and this student will get to sit in the requested VIP comfy office chair for the week. This will increasing motivation and boost students' self-esteem and confidence. Success in this project will be measured through journal entries using the requested notebooks, surveys and reflections before and after the project to gauge the changes in students' attitudes towards empathy and compassion.
