My Project
In our first grade, it's important to create a classroom community where students are respecting each other and showing compassion towards one another. It's also important that they carry these values outside of school as well. For this project, students are going to learn all about compassion. We will start out by reading books that will aid my students in better understanding what it means to be compassionate. Together, we will brainstorm ways to see the world through others' eyes. We have many books in our classroom that are about diversity, disabilities, etc. to help us better understand how we are all unique. Each child is going to share how they can show compassion. Once they are finished, we will have a beautiful hallway display that will use these materials to showcase their work.
Throughout the year, we will continue to create special hallway displays that showcase kindness and compassion including a project where students will write kind notes to each other to help fill each others' "buckets".
The success of this project and their understanding of compassion will be measured by their written responses and their actions throughout the school year.
