Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

People everywhere deserve to feel special. I want my students to learn and develop a true sense of compassion towards others.

This project is being created to bring happiness to others (and will have our students experiencing happiness in giving little cards and pictures to others) and to teach compassion to the young people I am blessed to educate.

The children will use our note cards to personalize their little messages and then deliver them to others and experience the happiness that comes from making others feel special. We want to use our cards to recognize our staff and uplift their spirits. If we see someone suffering or needing a kind action, we will share our little cards as a great way to pick up their mood. We will also use our cards for students to celebrate each student on their birthdays as well so students have a keepsake to experience the fact their friends care about them and their special day.

We will use the blank copy paper for the students to create their own artwork to express their understanding of compassion, such as drawing pictures of themselves showing themselves helping another friend with a task, or helping another friend in a positive light by pointing out the strengths of their friends. I will measure the success of the students' understanding of compassion by encouraging each student to verbalize their artwork and share what compassion means to them and how they feel when showing compassion to others.
