Help me give my students stories to read and learn about compassion. The 5 book bundle - Kindness & Social Emotional Learning will kick off our Compassion Unit. Then they can read more engaging books.
Help my students learn compassion through reading the 5 book bundle, Kindness and Social Emotional Learning. These books will allow my students to see the world through the eyes of others. We will discuss and what it is like to be new to a school after reading Invisible, move to another country following Champions for Change, and overcome a hard situation after reading Inspiring Others. We will make cards for new students coming to our school. Learn how to engage with someone new and be inclusive. Using the 8 mini Emotion Plush Toys, we will practice showing compassion before we apply it. We will make a welcoming group/team to make sure new students feel comfortable and welcome. Students will share the desk pets with students that need a little pick-me-up. Snacks, like Ritz Bits, not only bring the students together, but they tend to help bring down walls, allowing genuine conversation to take place and compassion shine through.
These books will help my students see things from another person's perspective.
I will know they have learned compassion when I see them welcoming new students, engaging with students, and including others at recess and lunch. We live in a military town, so there are many new students each year. Teaching compassion at this age will help them become compassionate adults.
