Community Service Spreading Kindness One Holiday at a Time

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school community is made of many new immigrants to the country and often times their families need support around the holidays as they are just establishing themselves in the country. As a result the school often times tries to help out those families in highest need. My students in the older grades shared how sometimes they feel saddened by the fact that not all students receive gifts or items from the school at the holidays. I asked them to think of an idea for this service project that would help and they came up with the idea of a kindness basket for the major holidays celebrated in the school.
The students want to have a kindness basket at the school entrance that has erasers that are themed to each holiday of the school year and as the students come into school they can each take one eraser.
Even though it's a small token they felt it would be a way to bring a small bit of joy to everyone in the school and would be a way to spread kindness. They felt everyone should receive something around holidays and they thought this project of a holiday kindness basket could help make this happen. Please support my students in their attempt at spreading kindness in the school at the various holidays through the year.
