Help me give my students 2 round tables and 8 chairs to do community collaborative learning. I need a classroom that is more individualized with a more group-oriented approach and environment.
I have a group of diverse learners (special education) students and strategic general education students. The students are in grade 8. Our school is an elementary school which services students from grades Prek to 8th. My students are in both our inclusion model and resource model.
Our Special Education program and General Education program is comprised of 50 amazing students (12 of which are middle schoolers), many of whom come from low income households and receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Some have severe learning disabilities, behavioral disorders and mild cognitive delays. They are a great group of kids!
My Project
Having a collaborative learning environment with for example round tables for the students to work in paired or shared groups without moving desks and to have folding lightweight chairs, will be more efficient with space and allow collaboration for different types of learners.
For example, I as the teacher can more easily work with my groups and the environment will be based on their learning styles and better cater to my limited amount of time.
Furthermore, having a collaborative learning environment can lead to greater shared ownership and construction of knowledge. This will greatly result in greater participation among even my most diverse of students.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
