Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are a diverse group of learners! They have seamlessly LEAPED into an entirely digital age where we are using technology for part of the day. Our students are given multiple leadership responsibilities. They are learning to be self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, and set and track goals.

My Project

Our school is a Leader in Me school. We encourage our students to participate in community service events and lead our own philanthropic projects with our classes. We want to entice them to complete more service projects. In this project, children will earn classroom currency by doing community service hours. When they are ready, they have an opportunity to “go shopping” on FAB Fridays. They will choose what they want to buy by saving up their tickets for a prize of their choice. They can cash in, or save for a better prize. We are looking to add new shopping items. The Book shelf is important for us to have in our classroom. The book shelf will serve as a place to display and hold all the rewards in our classroom. It will serve as a reminder to continue to do their best!

Having the new supply of rewards will also enable me to expand our social-emotional learning rewards to best assist my students social-emotional needs and give them the tools they need to work through real-life situations.

We are currently working on a philanthropic project and donating to students in need. We are creating birthday bags for other children who may not be able to afford celebrating their birthday. We have partnered with a community organization called the Staten Island Giving Circle.
