The students at our school have a passion for learning like no other! Many of them have never left their neighborhood and yearn for experiences and information about the world. One of our standards for Social Studies is community and those who have impacted others. But with limited ability to access technology or even transportation to the library, it is left upon the educators to bring more engaging activities into their small world. The smiles on their faces when they finish a fun project or get to be independent is amazing!
My Project
The books I am requesting will give the students a look into the lives of different people who have impacted the world around us. Each year we do a project where the students research someone and present it to the class. These books are the perfect reading level for 3rd grade students to work independently and be able to create a lesson they can teach to their classmates.
I would like to have a variety of books (or multiple of books) so that every student can choose the person they are most interested in knowing about.
I have found that if students get to be active participants in their learning that they are engaged 100x more!
