My Students
I teach in a beautifully culturally diverse Title I school. I have 28 students who adore learning. These students are happy to be at school whether it's online or in the classroom. They work together, problem-solve, and share to make sure that everyone gets what they need. I want to give these students every opportunity to explore their potential, and to access high-paying careers. I believe these students should also have a classroom full of materials that reflect them, their culture, and their interests.
My Project
In the fall of 2021 students created a community garden at our school. Students learned about how ecosystems function, including the relationship between producers, consumers and decomposers. They tested their soil for pH and moisture, and adjusted accordingly. They spend the winter growing starts inside and determining how sunlight effects growth.
It is almost spring and we are ready for planting outdoors!
We just need a few more supplies to get us growing.
This project has kept students engaged during a trying year. Having a hands on, outdoor, community project, gives students a safe activity to look forward to each day. Keep them learning and growing!
