I've had subscriptions to SuperSTEM in the past, when I had my own classroom, and it was a great resource. Now that I'm teaching the entire school, I see each class once a week for an hour, and I've had to be flexible in my thinking of how to use it.\r\n\r\nSuperSTEM has become a hit for my early finishers. I have a folder with issues of SuperSTEM and worksheets that go with the articles. Students that finish their work early often gravitate toward SuperSTEM and engage in the articles and activities that they are drawn to. It's been rewarding to see students go from \"I'm bored... what should I do?\" to self-selecting and self-starting work with SuperSTEM!\r\n\r\nThis project is even being used outside of my classroom! A first grader needed more challenging work, so we paired him up with a 5th grader to work through SuperSTEM together.\r\n\r\nThank you for making a difference in my students' lives!","fullyFundedDate":1746749916754,"projectUrl":"project/superstem-for-science-class/9324856/","projectTitle":"SuperSTEM for Science Class","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dupré","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6186501_orig.jpg?crop=2489,2489,x302,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1590535411880","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-dupre"},{"teacherId":6186501,"projectId":9843629,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. The books and supplies provided have made a huge impact on all of my students, kindergarten through fifth grade!\r\n\r\nThe week before winter break, all students went through the engineering process to design a wintery item with the supplies they had - either magnatiles, legos, playdoh, straws and connectors, or brain flakes. This was an incredible way to introduce the engineering process and allow the students to engage in some productive struggle. The creations that came out of this were amazing!\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the microscopes have been a huge hit. Students have explored the classroom, the outdoors, and fossils. They love showing each other what they can see once they've figured out how to focus the microscope.\r\n\r\nNeedless to say, my classroom would look and feel much different without your support. I would like to talk specifically about 1 of the rugs that this project gifted to our classroom. This rug is the one that features a neighborhood with a road going through it. From the moment I put the rug on the floor I have not been able to keep my students off of it. My special needs students love to lay on it and rub their face or their hands across its smooth soft surface and the rest of my class love to play with it. This rug has become the hub for choice time! They bring cars, construction vehicles, magnetic tiles to build houses, restaurants and even airplanes for an airport. One day there were 14 students sharing this space working together to \"enhance\" the neighborhood! I had no idea this would make such a difference in our choice time. \r\nThe Document pockets have also been a big hit. These have allowed students to use white board markers and complete all types of work as well as many partner games and activities. My class love to use white board markers that they can wipe off and try again and to see their work posted proudly on the wall. The teachers were so excited to have this resource, they had no idea it was coming. It was great to be able to distribute these letter kits to classrooms where I know the teachers are going to be using them on a daily with their students. As son as the teachers received the kits they were talking about how they were going to be using them. This year we started a new reading program to help our students learn their letter names and sounds. These letter kits will help our students identify the letters that correspond to the different sounds.\r\nOne teacher stated that she was going to be using these letters with her small groups and with her students who are nonverbal. Our school is a full inclusion school where students with a variety of needs are mainstreamed into the classrooms for the entire day. We have students who are autistic and nonverbal as well as students with fine motor needs. These letters help our students complete the tasks without their disabilities being a hindrance. One of our nonverbal first grade students has been very successful with the letters as a way to show her understanding and comprehension in a way that meets her needs. Thank you for supporting oar teachers and students, you have allowed our students with disabilities to be included and supported in their learning. Students don't make a big fuss about it, but they appreciate being able to grab what they need without having to ask. Whether it's a mask before heading back to class, a pad for an older student, or a bandaid after recess, the cart helps them take care of themselves and return to learning right away.\r\n\r\nOne boy with chronically dry lips has already stopped by several times for chapstick, and it's been reassuring to see him find relief without waiting for me to be free. These small moments add up: the cart allows students to meet their needs with dignity, reduces interruptions, and keeps them in class instead of waiting in the clinic.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our students now have consistent access to everyday essentials that support their health and confidence. The next step is continuing to integrate the cart into our daily routines, making sure students know it's always available as a quiet, reliable support whenever they need it.","fullyFundedDate":1758229018621,"projectUrl":"project/clinic-self-serve-station-supporting-he/9671933/","projectTitle":"Clinic Self-Serve Station: Supporting Health and Independence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Naisha","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7804745_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756757643964","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7804745"},{"teacherId":526072,"projectId":9116883,"letterContent":"Since receiving new headphones and white boards through your most generous donations, my students have had the opportunity to draw, write and listen with our new phonemic awareness program. The presharpened pencils have saved me hours of time and given students access to nice pencils with erasers right when they need them. \r\n\r\nWith cold and flu season beginning simultaneously with the start of the school year, the tissues and cleaning wipes have been a life saver! \r\n\r\nOne of the most loved items is the Wild Kratts game. Students are eager to play, so they are on their best behavior to make time to engage with the game. I am blessed to have many science related books for students of all ages to enjoy.\r\n\r\nOne of the most popular series has been the Max Axiom books, which are graphic novels about different science subjects. Graphic novels are popular at all grade levels, and easy to access thanks to the many pictures, so students of various reading levels can still learn something from them. \r\n\r\nAnother popular book is Ada Magnifica, Cientifica - the Spanish version of Ada Twist, Scientist. Becoming the science teacher after nine years as a classroom teacher was an exciting but daunting shift for me. I wanted to be sure that students saw this room as their science class and not just another general education classroom. Thanks to your support, that rings true today.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite items is the Make Every Day Earth Day tapestry. It takes up a big space on my wall and is something the students notice every time they are in the classroom, taking ownership of helping to keep the earth a beautiful place to live.\r\n\r\nThe stickers and microscopes have been especially helpful in managing student behavior. With 20 classes and 450 students, finding ways to help students stay focused requires different tricks than a traditional classroom teacher typically uses. I use stickers to reward the most focused table after each class, which has helped even the most distractible students stay on task. The microscopes have been promised as a reward for classes who consistently show respectful behavior, and they sure are motivating!\r\n\r\nYour support truly makes a difference in my classroom. I change the color of the lights depending on the grade level to help student (any myself!) remember which color coded vocabulary and learning targets are for their grade level. The dry erase markers are also helping us to stay organized based on grade level color.\r\n\r\nSome surprising favorites have been the Smokey the Bear poster, especially popular with Kindergarteners, and the small space air fresheners! These will be perfect for the first few weeks of school, and will provide an easy sub plan for me to leave, saving me hours of lesson planning. \r\n\r\nMy favorite part of this package was the scientist posters. I have hung these up above the whiteboard where students will see them every day.
