This is my first year as an educator and I've been told you never forget your first class. I have yet to meet my students, but I know they will leave a lasting impression on my career.
Building a community within our classroom is vital to each and every student being successful.
The city of East Chicago is big on community and everyone using their strengths and differences to come together and make each other stronger. This is the same spirit I desire for the students in my classroom.
I have yet to meet my students, but one of the first things I want them to feel when they walk into our classroom is a sense of community! For this reason, I chose to arrange my students in collaborative groups and use community supplies.
Collaboration is a major key to building communities.
Each group of students would be able to access shareable supplies, textbooks, and resources to complete assignments and projects by using the community drawers. It gives them something to be responsible over and will show them the importance of accessibility and organization when it comes to success in learning.
It also simplifies organization for me. I would be able to ensure each student has access to what they need and are able to be prepared to learn, not worrying about access to paper, pencils, or manipulatives.
