This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with very little support from home. I provide my students with a safe, caring, supportive environment with high expectations. We need an area where we can conduct whole group instruction. We would love a carpet!
We are a Title 1 school with high poverty.
We serve breakfast in the classroom. Many students do not have their basic needs met. We provide before and after school programs along with tutoring. We also conduct Parent-Teacher Home Visits in an effort to build relationships and parent engagement.
My Project
With a carpet, we will be able to meet together as a whole class,participate in read alouds in a comfortable setting, and share learning. Much of our time in kindergarten is spent in whole group with development of oral language (songs and movement), read alouds, science investigations and discussions, calendar, and sharing.
We are transitioning to a STEM school this year with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
We will be conducting many investigations and collaborating. A carpet would help tremendously.
