My Project

My students attend high school in New York City. My students range In ages 13 to 22 and present with a variety of cognitive and developmental delays including but not limited to autism spectrum disorders, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities. My students enjoy engaging in conversations, completing tasks at worksites, and participating in group activities in school with peers and staff. Many of my students use alternative argumentative communication devices where they use picture symbols, sign language, or typing and communication devices to navigate the world and interact with others.

Integrating this laptop into speech therapy sessions in a school environment not only enhances student learning but also opens up vocational opportunities.

By incorporating technology, students can develop essential communication and computer literacy skills necessary for success in today's digital workforce. With access to specialized software and interactive resources, students can practice real-world tasks such as creating presentations, participating in virtual meetings, and utilizing assistive technology. These experiences not only prepare students for vocational opportunities but also empower them to navigate an increasingly technology-driven society with confidence and proficiency.
