My Students
Adolescence is the time for us to discover new directions our lives can take, and to challenge ourselves to find out what motivates us.
My students are in a ninth grade alternatively assessed class in an occupational studies high school.
They have many opportunities to practice functional skills and core academics, but have little exposure to fine arts and music. They enjoy school, and they are making excellent progress academically, but they need to have opportunities to explore their passions and talents as well.
My Project
With a guitar available in the classroom, my students will have a chance to explore an alternative method of self expression. Using the students' creative writing and poetry as a starting point, we will produce folk, blues, and rock compilations that we will present as a class at the end of the unit.
It is so important that young students are given the chance to explore new talents and creative opportunities.
Having a guitar available will give me a chance to expose my students to a new means of musical expression.
