My Students
My Brooklyn, NY students light up the room with their smiles and plant perseverance and gratitude in others’ hearts.
My students have multiple and severe disabilities.
They love to discover and learn.
Our 3rd-8th graders experience vocational programs once to twice per week during the school day and during the four-day afterschool program each week. Our vocational classrooms are thriving hubs of exploration, laughter, and learning daily. We offer training in various store, custodial, and office work positions. This year, we have added a second classroom and are expanding our vocational offerings to include hydroponics, which will supply our cooking program.
We are so excited! Along with our core academic, theater, dance, and photography programs, vocational seeks to give our students the foundations and tools they need to become more autonomous and independent in high school and adulthood.
My Project
The Go Talk and Communication Buttons will enhance learning, interaction, and classroom participation for our verbally challenged students. They will use these devices in the vocational instructional and practicum classrooms.
Let's get our students talking!
The devices will help students ask and answer questions, and engage in scripted and non-scripted practice situations they will encounter in real life. These devices will increase equity in the vocational classrooms by extending access to all students to fully engage in fun learning experiences. When we resume community service, these devices will allow our students to engage effectively with community members.
