My students are wonderful, inquisitive, playful individuals who are looking for friendship, love and acceptance. They love to play and are very excited to learn new things. We created a classroom that resembles a family, were all are accepted and loved. What I love most about my students is how they are willing to help each other and assist those that are struggling without making them feel less than.
My students are caring and not afraid to show it.
One day a student came in, she had lost her grandfather over the weekend and was very sad. Every student gave her a hug and said they were so sorry, it was such a solemn time (it brought tears to my eyes).
As an ENL teacher, some of my students struggle to participate in the classroom or understand the content of the text. Being able to use a tablet allows the student to have the text translate in their home language(This cuts down on paper and killing of trees). This gives them a better understanding of the text and they are able to actively engage in classroom activities. They can answer individual questions and also participate in group activities.
Some students will be allowed to used the device at home to further their understanding of lessons taught in class and to assist in additional help as needed.
Using visuals, quick informal assessments with the aid of technology, not only benefits my English Language Learners but it also helps me to quickly assess and readjust the lesson being taught.
