Communication Is Key

Help me give my students a communication center where their parents can find their papers.

My Students

My 3 year-olds are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They thrive while living in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Some have gone through more in their young lives than many of us will ever have to endure in a lifetime. Yet every day, they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood and find solace in our classroom. Despite all of the challenges they face outside the school walls, they still come to school each day ready and excited to learn.

My students blossom with the educational and enrichment opportunities being offered, which helps them to build their background knowledge and exposes them to things they otherwise wouldn't be exposed to.

For all of them, coming to school is where they have any opportunities to build their academic and social foundations to set them up for success later in life.

My Project

Communication between parents and teachers is the key to a successful working relationship and ensuring the success of students. Unfortunately, right now, we have no organized way to make sure papers are getting to parents and parents are up to date on the latest information. Parents are missing out on important information and students are losing homework all because they have no where to put papers.

This communication center will ensure, parents do not miss another message and students will not lose another homework assignment.

Each child will be assigned their own slot for papers where parents can check when they sign their child in and out each day. This will eliminate papers falling out of cubbies, getting lost in book bags, or just not seeing them. The stand will also allow parents to sign their child in and out each day on a surface that is at writing height. We will also be able to include important reminders on the white board to let parents know of upcoming events.
