This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello everyone! I am currently teaching a self contained special education class. My students are full of life and have a lot of energy, which is why we are known around school as the "busy bees". My students have a range of disabilities from speech and language, health impaired, learning disabled, and autism. I am inspired by my students on a daily basis because even though they have cognitive or physical disabilities, they still have a wonderful spirit and have joyful persona.

Due to the nature of my class, I have students in my class who are non-verbal. I can't imagine not having the ability to communicate using my voice and I fully understand why they get frustrated.

With the use of Boardmaker, my students who can not communicate verbally will be given a voice. Not only will it alleviate frustration, they will now be able to communicate and socialize with their peers. Additioanlly, I will be able to create schedule cards for my students. This allows me to put the the activities of the day in order so students can see what we are doing for the day. This is so important because often times students with special needs have a hard time with transitions, and need the consistency of a structured schedule.
